Digital Photos

These are notes until I have time to complete this task...

I always carry a camera, if only my phone. I always carried a camera long before I allowed one on my phone. I always carried a camera before they even had phone cameras.

The first digital camera I can remember? There were so many. I remember a Japanese guy following me all around Disneyland as I took pictures with one in the mid-90s. Maybe it was the Casio QV-11, with an LCD monitor, in late 1995, early 1996; connected to my PC with a serial cable. I thought there was one or two before that even. I still have a Sony Mavica that writes to a 3.5" floppy disk, and a later one that wrote to compact disc. Those mechanical operations were slow!

But I don't know much about the cameras and almost nothing about photography. I am almost entirely self-taught. The one photography class I ever took didn't take; although I liked the instructor, I found the learning context difficult. I don't seem to understand the theory when I sit down to read about it. Sometimes I read the camera manual; it's always been useful to do so, and I keep links to my camera manuals handy in the cloud for remote access.

But the magic, however you've prepared for it, is in the moment you release the shutter. That's such an exciting moment for me, that I often shake the camera when I do it.

Perhaps I'm destined always to be a newbie.

The heart of my art is right here:
For me there is only the traveling on the paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length. And there I travel—looking, looking, breathlessly. [The Teachings of Don Juan, A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, Carlos Castaneda]

I have an interest in photography as storytelling,
